General Overview of Experience Overall interview experience was exactly as described in previous ride reports. They do their best to make you feel welcome and let you know from the start that you are qualified to do the job. It really is your job to loose.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? <60 days
Did you attend a job fair? No
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? I attended Delta’s ATP-CTP course. It is the real deal.
How many internal recs did you have? 5+
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 6 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? Yes, I did not list the jobs that I had in high school. I misunderstood the application instructions. Delta wants ALL the jobs that you have had that you have ever received a W2 for, not just 10 years back. I have only worked for the military for the past 25 years, so that is all I listed. They asked me if I worked in high school and I told them that I had, so they gave me a form to fill out listing all my jobs. Take my advice and put ALL of your work history on your application.
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? RST. Great program and I felt over prepared for the testing portion.
Technical Test Questions Not to many math problems. One calculating a 3 degree descent from altitude. Know any and all engine and aerodynamic concepts. Questions from the test were not the same as what are on the quizzes, but they are close enough that you will know the answer if you know the concepts.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? None were to hard. Like I said know the concepts and you will do well. Expect a lot of aerodynamics and how speeds change when climbing or descending. Also how density altitude and weight effects your take-off and landing performance.
Cog Test Very easy
Cog Math Questions My suggestion is to get to know the cog math power point from the RST Delta Facebook page.
HR Questions -Tell us about yourself in 2 minutes or less.
-Tell me about your pilot training check ride bust.
-What do you think that Delta owes you? – Think safety
-TMAAT when you felt uncomfortable in an airplane.
-You show up fly and the captain and lead FA are in a heated argument. How do you handle that?
-You have a maintenance problem and the captain wants you to tell the customers that the delay is do to weather. How do you handle that? How often do you think that your customers need to be updated? Make a PA announcement updating the customers of your maintenance delay. Do you think that we owe our customers any compensation for the delay?
-What do you think that you owe Delta?
-When would you take the airplane from a captain?
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 6 weeks
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? Just RST, and a lot of mock interviews from people who had recently gone through the experience. I had plenty of stories to tell, but they definitely try to get you off of what you practiced prior to the interview. My interview portion went really well. It was basically just a conversation talking about your flying experience. Keep a smile on your face and stay pleasant. Just make sure that you application is complete prior to submitting it.
Any additional information you would like to add. Delta thoroughly looks at your application and the HR representatives know what to look for and what questions to ask pertaining to your application. They actually told me that I did a great job listing my hours, and that they added up perfectly. Like I said they know what to look for what to ask questions on from the application.
Is there anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? Make sure that my employment history was what they were looking for.
