General Overview of Experience Overall had a fantastic experience interviewing. Professional, welcoming, conversational HR. It was tough receiving the 6 month re-interview news after being debriefed that I scored high on the job knowledge test and the high on the HR. The debrief given to me was that something with the algorithm didn’t work out with either the cognitive test or the 240 question personality test or a combination of both. I was told that it was very close but that they cannot access the system to see how I answered and where I can improve when I retest in 6 months. The math section of the Cog was the most challenging for me, other than that I felt comfortable with the other 12 sections. On the 240 question personality test I avoided answering neutral. I answered agree or disagree on most questions and strongly agree/disagree only on questions that I was confident were exactly related to my personality. I answered honestly and quickly, I did not return to previous question to rethink my answer. I wish I had further advice on how to improve next time around but that is all of the information that they could provide me with. I was told the personality tests are different every time and will be a different test next time around. I recommend spending time researching personality tests and how to answer the questions effectively/accurately and also spend time on the math section of the Cog test.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 12 months +
Did you attend a job fair? No
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Internal Recommendation
How many internal recs did you have? 5+
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 6 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? Logbook: Flight time matched my application and I was not asked any logbook questions. Brought my original flight training logbook and printed my logten pro logbook and had it bound at FedEx.
Application/Paperwork: Brought extra paperwork supporting my flight training, type ratings, driving record, printed application etc., left it all in my bag in case it was needed. Was never asked for anything other than the required paperwork.
Technical Test Questions It has been said before and I will say it again, know the concepts. If you are doing well on the practice tests and understand the concepts behind the questions you will do great. Take a look at the Gold Standard PPT on the RST website. I had 6 math questions which were very similar to the RST math questions except for one Lat/Long question asking you to determine distance in NM.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? Was given a Lat/Long of departure airport and Lat/Long of arrival airport (Destination was located North East of the departure point). Determine the distance in NM based on the Lat/Long.
HR Questions They start by introducing themselves.
Tell us about yourself after highschool leaving out personal life in less than 5 minutes.
Most of the time was spent talking about my application including previous jobs, volunteering, my roles as CA, etc.
What is Delta’s responsibility to you?
How will you represent Delta on/off duty?
Explain stage check/ checkride failure?
If you failed this stage check how did you have further advancement opportunities at the same flight school?
What have you done to professionally advance yourself in your aviation career?
TMAAT you were at work and had a demanding situation.
WWYD: Flight attendant brings you a club soda and lime and a passenger is positive it is a gin and tonic.
WWYD: CA is PF and is high and fast on the STAR. They are going to miss the crossing restriction and there is traffic above and below.
WWYD: You are a new CA and during your briefing with the flight crew the senior 30 year FA will not listen to you.
Cog Test Cog was similar to RST prep but different. Make sure you read all of the instructions and don’t assume the sections are the same as the RST ones. The math portion of the cog was the most difficult for me and most of the people that I interviewed with said that they didn’t answer the first math question because by the time they came up with an answer the question disappeared and another question came up. The hardest part is there is no visible timer so be quick to answer.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 5 weeks
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? ECIC
Any additional information you would like to add.
Is there anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? I wish that I would have started with the ground schools before the 15 days checklist.
