Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? No. Brought military logbooks and civilian logbooks. I filled out a new/duplicate civilian logbook because my entries from back in the day in my original civilian logbook were a little messy with crossed out times/different colored inks and wanted to show I cared about how my records looked. Used Anytime Logbooks for digital printout with their binder. FWIW, in our interview group I was the first one called back and the CA said “It pays to be organized right after lunch – thank you.”
Technical Test Questions During the desktop scenario was asked a few questions about being vectored on/off SIDs/STARs. Asked what I would do departing DEN on the STAR and there was a thunderstorm cell on the SID track. Got a DRIVE light in flight, talk through decision-making. Continued on to LAX and had to go missed for bomb at airport – talked through divert options and made decision. At end of scenario debriefed what went well, what could have gone better, and lessons learned (pretty similar to military debrief stuff).
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? The CA seemed to be wanting to get through the SBI pretty quickly . A lot of questions I asked they would quickly respond with “yup, yeah, that’s done, sounds good, etc”. They were really nice about it and enthusiastic just wasn’t expecting that. We jumped from one phase of the flight to the next without really being told we were moving on or being asked. For example there wasn’t anything like “Anything else before we move on to the approach portion?” so I didn’t brief the approach into LAX while we were talking about flying the STAR. The CA didn’t seem to really care about that though – I brought it up in the debrief and she said “Oh ya I briefed that to you cause I’m a really good FO!”. Also didn’t really bring in the FAs/pax to our CRM during the SBI. I brought it up in the debrief saying “I don’t think I communicated to the FAs or the PAX very well about what we were doing and why” and the CA said something like “I took care of all of that – the FAs knew what we were doing and I got to talk on the PA to the pax while you were doing your CA stuff.”

Any additional information you would like to add. Overall an amazing experience interviewing with United. From the moment I got on the shuttle to the hotel everyone was wishing me luck and making me feel at ease. It felt like everyone was rooting for me the whole time, even the hotel staff. Had multiple pilots come up to me during dinner and while waiting in the cafeteria to interview just start talking and telling me about the company/asking me about my background. Everyone made it feel like they wanted me to be there and couldn’t wait for the formalities to be over to be in the family. The CA and HR rep (recently retired CA) were the same way – very laid back and enthusiastic to have me there. Really put me at ease to help them get to know me. Can definitely see a culture in the company where everyone is looking out for each other and wants to see each other succeed. It’s difficult to put into words how great the experience in Denver was but when you go there to interview then it will make sense!
