General Overview of Experience United makes you feel welcome in every possible way. It was by far the least stressful interview process I have ever been a part of.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 12 months +
Did you attend a job fair? Yes
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? I went to 2 conferences with United right before covid hit and did resume reviews with their HR team at both locations. I kept my app updated once every 30 days until they started hiring again.
How many internal recs did you have? 5+
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 3 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? I was conservative with my times. I have only military time and my green military flight record folder showed about 400 more hours than I claimed on my resume (I took out all “other” time) but on the day of the interview I only gave them my green Air Force ARMS flight record folder and they had zero questions for me.
Technical Test Questions There was what appeared to be a low threat skills assessment where I was in the room with 2 737 captains, and I was given a flight that they pulled off their official flight schedule, they gave me the ipad, walked me through how to use content locker (app for their QRH) and JeppFDPro to find info on the taxi, company info, departure, route, arrival, approach and taxi in. I gave a crew brief on notams, weather, threats, route of flight and departure emergencies (from the perspective of my current plane in the military, they didnt expect me to know anything that they didnt provide ahead of time). They asked basic questions like what is an MSA, what altitude do you set for a given SID if cleared to climb via, what do you do if vectored off/back on to a sid/STAR, and some basic jepp chart symbols like tacan, highest indicated terrain, and holding speeds.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? It never really felt that stressful. They do a great job of making you feel at home. I would say maybe some of the Jeppesen symbols since I dont have much experience with Jeppesen products.
HR Questions TMAAT…
1. You had to speak up to make sure your opinion was heard (I asked for clarification if they wanted an example of me being a lower ranking person or if I could give one as a captain and they said either was fine).

2. You had to deal with a difficult crewmember and how you resolved the situation.

3. You met a professional goal that you set for yourself that made you proud.

4. You received criticism from a coworker and how you received that criticism.

5. You had to think outside the box to solve a problem.

6. Why United?

Is there anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process?
Review Jeppesen symbols a bit more. I never use them in the military so i had to study them a lot to feel somewhat comfortable.
