Which Airline did you interview with? FedEx
How many days between invite, interview, and listed availability? 16 days between invite and interview. 20 days between interview and listed availability.
Did you receive a job offer? Yes
If you did not receive the CJO why do you think you weren’t chosen to continue in the process?
What is your experience? Military and 121
Total Flight Time 5,000-8,000
Total Turbine PIC Time >2,000
General Overview of Experience Same overall experience as many previous candidates. Kim and Amy are very laid back and set the tone for a relaxing atmosphere.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 1-6 months
Did you attend a job fair? No
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Internal recommendation along with frequent application updates. I updated it every time I flew.
How many internal recs did you have? 1-2
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 2 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? No. I had a printout of my electronic logbook along with my USAF flight history report and original logbooks.
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? For the JKT I completed the ground school, took practice tests, and read over the publications in the 15-day study plan. I didn’t complete the 15-day plan as thoroughly as I would have liked due to time constraints, but I believe it would have been worthwhile. For the COG I took several practice tests and focused on developing techniques. Listen to the webinar before you go to the interview.
Technical Test Questions Only during the JKT.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? Nothing that challenged me more than what RST prepared me for. I reiterate, know the concepts and RTFQ. Several of the questions you will be seeing for the first time.
Cog Test Very straight forward. RST prepares you adequately. Symbol/number portion is weighted the heaviest, so make sure you have a good technique for that.
Cog Math Questions Not that difficult, but Amy still says that a lot of candidates fail it. Read the question and if you can’t quickly solve it, look and the possible answers and sometimes you can find the answer through elimination.
HR Questions Tell me about yourself
Tell me more about your school record
Tell me about the history of FedEx and a little bit about the operations
What is a night hub turn
Tell me about a setback in your aviation career
WWYD if going around from crosswinds in mountainous terrain and comms are failing
TMAAT you thought you were right but someone corrected you
TMAAT you failed as a leader
What are your symptoms of fatigue
WWYD if your first officer says he/she is fatigued in the middle of a flight
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? Approximately 2-weeks, but I had already been preparing for approximately 2-months for an interview at another airline.
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? ECIC was a good investment. I highly recommend the service.
Any additional information you would like to add. Enjoy the experience. A lot of good people that care a lot about FedEx put in a lot of effort to make you feel welcome. If you’re being interviewed, they want to hire you. Prepare thoroughly and you will do well.
Is their anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? I wish I would have more thoroughly studied the 15-day study plan in prep for the JKT.
What can we do to improve our services? Keep up the good work!
