How many internal recs did you have? 3-4
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 8 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? No, I took a couple college classes in highschool and I didn’t list the college but I had a transcript. They asked but once I explained they were fine with it not being in my education history, (part of high school).
Technical Test Questions See below.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? I got a lot of aerodynamics questions. Some of them were situational based. For example: If you experienced an uncommanded nose up pitching moment what would be the best long term solution? A: Deploy Flaps and speed up B: Deploy flaps and slow down C: Move people or cargo AFT to get greater controlability over pitch D: Nothing your in a normal CG envelope. I picked C, no idea if it was right but deploying flaps didn’t seem like a good long term solution. I had maybe 8 questions I saw on RST the rest were pretty easy to give an educated guess on.
HR Questions Explain low GPA. What is the biggest problem you see at your carrier? Why this class in college? FO carries hat in suitcase WWYD? What events would have to transpire before you took the controls from the CA? What advice would you give someone in college who wants to be an airline pilot? Do you think you are proficient with 8 hours/month flight time? What do you do outside of work? Asked about commuting to NY.
Cog Test I used to have a SI had had to take this test a total of 4 times now. I can honestly say just stay focused and don’t get flustered. You can’t really improve cognition. The RST helps with concepts but the test is way easier than the RST trainer.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 2 months
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? This was my second interview and I used EC for the first one and I felt that I only gave coached answers versus my answers. Not EC’s problem it was mine, they did a great job and good information and I am sure that it still helped me in my overall success. This time I just talked to friends and reflected on my decision making process and using that to apply to different types of situations.
Any additional information you would like to add. The best advice I got was that interviews ask two types of questions. One’s to determine your thought process and ones to see what’s in your heart. Have a process to answer the brain ones i.e. Hub and spoke method or safe, legal, efficient, did i use my team checklists. For the heart ones just be true to yourself and don’t be afraid to express some humanity / vulnerability (within reason)… A trick I use when doing Q and A with large groups of people is what I call the water pause. I hear the question take the cap off a bottle take a drink or two put the cap on then answer. This short 5 second pause buys enough time for there to be enough time to gather your thoughts think of a quick strategy and begin to answer, also it helps to recenter your thought process if you start thinking at hyperspeed. I went through about 4 bottles of water in 45 minute interview. I think all and all I did a phenominal job of over complicating rather simple questions while preparing. Relaxing is 90% of the battle the other half is preparation.
Is there anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? No
