Which Airline did you interview with? FedEx
How many days between invite, interview, and listed availability? 3 weeks invite to interview. Interview date was 3 weeks before my listed availability.
Did you receive a job offer? 12 months call back
If you did not receive the CJO why do you think you weren’t chosen to continue in the process? I didn’t pass the HR panel. Not sure why specifically, but if I had to guess I’d say they felt my answers were too canned, and I didn’t sell them on my genuine desire to work for FedEx specifically.
What is your experience? Military and 121
Total Flight Time 4,000-5,000
Total Turbine PIC Time >2,000
General Overview of Experience The cog, knowledge, and personality tests were actually not that big a deal. I definitely over-prepared for those. The Gold Standard slides, EEFTPP, and Google are all you need to pass the knowledge, and RST was helpful for the cog.
The SBI sucked but follow the ECIC process while not forgetting about the clock and you’ll be OK.
The interview was not what I expected at all. Once the door was closed my guys were a tad confrontational, not particularly friendly or jovial, and offered me almost no feedback while I talked. Mostly I got blank stares. They stuck with questions i had seen in some form or another, but didn’t seem to like my answers much. everything up to this point had been over-the-top nice and everyone had made an effort to keep us all at ease. It was odd to go from that to a pretty intense interview.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 1-6 months
Did you attend a job fair? No
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? No.
How many internal recs did you have? 3-4
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 3 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? First question they asked was why I had used a .3 military conversion on my resume. I told them that I got that number from their recruiting booth at WAI in 2015.
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? RST trainer and Lumosity
Technical Test Questions Google, EEFTPP and Gold Standard are all I needed. I found RST to be overkill in this area. It was nice to have but not necessary.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? The hardest concepts for me to learn were the transonic aerodynamics questions. By the time I took the test I had a solid foundation for them, so I feel confidant I got those questions correct.
Cog Test Strangely enough, I thought the audio portion (do these tones sound the same) was the most difficult.
Cog Math Questions They were pretty easy. Addition, subtraction, and multiplication.
HR Questions TMAAT you discovered someone wasn’t fit to fly. Do military trained people make better pilots than civilian trained?
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? about 3 weeks out, but I had done extensive prep for my interview with my current employer.
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? ECIC. Absolutely it helped and I give it a very strong recommendation. That being said it was the HR portion that did me in at FedEx. I don’t blame ECIC for one second though.
Any additional information you would like to add.
Is their anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? Focus a lot less on the knowledge test and spend more time working on HR. Specifically, I wish I could have been able to sell myself better, and been more comfortable in the room, which would have allowed me to give more relaxed answers and not be so robotic (my best guess is that had something to do with me not getting the CJO).
