Which Airline did you interview with? Delta
How many days between invite, interview, and listed availability? I got the invite at the end of July, and interviewed in mid-September.
Did you receive a job offer? Yes
If you did not receive the CJO why do you think you weren’t chosen to continue in the process? NA
What is your experience? Military/135
Total Flight Time 4,000-5,000
Total Turbine PIC Time >2,000
General Overview of Experience The Delta staff is extremely pleasant and helpful. They really try to put you at ease. The day is straight-forward just like everyone has said: you show up early and have a group sit down with the hiring chief pilot. Then you are split into groups (alphabetically) and the A’s through whatever fits does the HR first. The second half do the testing. You get an hour for lunch, and then the groups swap. There is a good bit of waiting around, which is a great time to get to know your fellow pilots. The worst part was at the end of the day, when they start calling individuals out to talk. They didn’t make it; so you get sick when anyone walks into the room. At the end, they come out and offer you the opportunity to continue to day 2, and you come back for the MMPI and talk with the psychologist. You get an email later that afternoon if you pass the testing and then you have your CJO.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 12 months +
Did you attend a job fair? No
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Had a few internal recs and request for scoring the app.
How many internal recs did you have? 5+
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 4 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? Never even mentioned it; I had the USAF printout from flight records
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? I did the 15 day prep first; then lots of practice tests and COGs.
Technical Test Questions Very similar to RST, but again, know the concept and how to apply it. Read the entire question carefully.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? A couple on NDBs, and electrical system with power loss. One question was a reverse fuel problem; trying to figure out how long you could hold with a given fuel burn and alternate considerations.
Cog Test RST is great practice. DON’T do the practice tests more than once…especially the symbols. One guy in our group did that and bombed it.
Cog Math Questions Nothing stands out as very difficult; again know the concepts and relax.
HR Questions Tell us about yourself from High school until now in 5 minutes.
A few questions about sections of my application.
TMAAT that your authority was questioned?
TMAAT you were wrong and had to eat crow/how did you handle it?
What are some negatives about working at Delta?
WWYD if you are about to close the doors, and your lead flight attendant comes up and tells you the 2 aft lavs are full. It’s a 2 hour flight and you only have 1 forward lav.
WWYD if you were flying along and suddenly you get an Anti-skid inop light? Follow up question was the airport you are going to has wet runway and raining; does that change anything?
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? A year…with other interviews as well.
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? ECIC; yes it helped, but you need to speak from the heart. They know the canned answers and the format. You’re a pilot…tell a story.
Any additional information you would like to add. Relax, take your time answering anything and try to see the bigger picture.
Is their anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? No; I was glad I had so much time to study.
