Total Turbine PIC Time

General Overview of Experience The experience was great. The Delta hiring team was very welcoming and professional. The stress of the event is all self-induced. The Delta World Headquarters is an amazing place. Be sure to follow ALL the instructions and rules you receive in their emails.
The computer testing was difficult, as previously reported, but the resources on RST do a great job of preparing you for the tests. You cannot practice for the personality test or the MMPI. You are who you are, so don’t try to ‘game’ the system on those two. The job knowledge test is very difficult but not impossible if you dedicate yourself to studying the material Delta sends you in the invite email. There was not a single person in my interview class that felt great about their performance on the knowledge test.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 1-6 months
Did you attend a job fair? No
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? My friend put in an internal recommendation that got my application reviewed.
How many internal recs did you have? 3-4
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 8 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? None. The only time we discussed or touched my logbooks was when they handed them back to me after the panel interview.
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? RST and focused reading on topics I considered myself to be weak on.
Technical Test Questions It is a difficult test. I found that for almost all questions, you could easily eliminate 1, if not 2 answers right away. Be very careful to read the question and answers. A lot of answers were VERY similar, with only a couple of words changed.
I did not have a lot of complex or obscure aerodynamics questions. I had more general aviation knowledge type questions and several easy descent math problems.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? There were several questions where I had to guess. None of the answers seemed correct.
Cog Test RST COG is a great practice tool. The actual test was very closely aligned. The left and right line is more sensitive and performs slightly different than the RST COG airplane.
I did not practice with a stylus and had no issues using it during the actual test.
Cog Math Questions I got simple math problems. There is certainly more time allotted per question, but you’re still being graded on how long it takes. I heard some other candidates had some reverse percentages but I did not.
HR Questions My panel interview was again, very welcoming and conversational. All three individuals did a great job of putting me at ease. It was stressful for sure, but I thought it was the best part of day one. A large portion of my panel interview consisted of questions derived from my work history and the experiences that I had listed on my application. I did not get any direct TMAAT type questions so the second half of the panel interview was focused entirely on WWYD questions. I participated in 3 Emerald Coast Webinars. The instructors in those webinars did a wonderful job of helping me develop my stories so I could clearly and concisely demonstrate who I am and why I’m a good fit for Delta Air Lines. I feel as though I would not have been successful without this help and additional practice.
WWYD Questions:
1. Anti-Skid light comes on in flight – escalated to destination having FAIR braking action
2. 5 minutes to push back, notified that you are 20 meals short in main cabin – asked if I’d do anything different if they were first class meals
3. Captain flying all her legs 15-20KTS slow making you late every time – escalated all the way to pro-standards
4. Pull into gate and gate agent advises they don’t have the necessary manpower to off-load bags – some pax with close connects, some staying on aircraft for through flight, others at their final destination
We talked about complacency, commuting, and what I’ve done to be an aviation/company advocate outside the workplace. I was also asked to discuss some of the volunteering I had listed on my application.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? I signed up for Emerald Coast the day after I got the invite which gave me 2 months to prepare.
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? Emerald Coast
Any additional information you would like to add. Don’t try to game the personality or MMPI tests.
If you have to retake the MMPI, don’t freak out. We had two guys asked to retake the MMPI and were successful.
Be prepared to have another interview with the psychiatrist. I fielded quite a few TMAAT questions in during the psych interview.
Is there anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? No
