General Overview of Experience Great experience. Had my app in and updated weekly for 2+ years. I think adding a couple internal letters of recommendation pushed my score up enough to get invited to the September job fair. The fair was really good and I received the Hogan/interview invite about a month later. The interview was a great experience – everyone was very welcoming and friendly. Just relax and be yourself (assuming your true self isn’t a weirdo) and you’ll do fine. They want to hire you if they’ve invited you in. Just help them validate that you are the good dude/dudette that you say you are on paper.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 12 months +
Did you attend a job fair? Yes
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Probably adding a couple extra internal letters of recommendation helped max my points. Making the effort to attend the job fair was also probably key. I used Checked and Set to polish up my app and that also probably helped a lot too.
How many internal recs did you have? 5+
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 4 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? None.
Technical Test Questions The TSA was pretty much what the ECIC webinar prepared me for. Study the information they send you in the interview packet, as well as the info covered in whatever interview prep service you use and you’ll be golden. Very low stress.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? N/A
HR Questions They ask you to sign a non-disclosure agreement at the beginning of the interview, so I don’t want to get into the specifics and risk my job. Just prep for the HR questions that any interview counseling service will give you and you’ll be fine.
Cog Test N/A
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? Years. Literally. I think I did 3 live seminars, 4 HR webinars, and a detailed top-off.
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? Emerald Coast. Don’t think I would have passed the interview without them. I also referenced some of the RST HR prep.
Any additional information you would like to add. I had fairly low time, even for a military pilot. People really get wrapped around TT and TPIC, but I really think they’re looking at the whole person. I had mountains of volunteer experience (mostly in leadership roles), high GPAs for my degrees, demonstrated progression in and out of the cockpit with few failures, an standard level of military leadership responsibilities and roles, and a good breadth of work experience (flying/non-flying assignments, some 121 experience after separating, etc).
Is there anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? Nope. I think I did just about everything I could to prepare. If anything, I probably shouldn’t have stressed-out so much about the interview; It really was pleasant experience.
