hich Airline did you interview with? FedEx Express
How many days between invite, interview, and listed availability? 5 weeks
Did you receive a job offer? Yes
If you did not receive the CJO why do you think you weren’t chosen to continue in the process? N/A
What is your experience? Military
Total Flight Time 2,000-3,000
Total Turbine PIC Time 1,000-2,000
General Overview of Experience The overall experience was great. The entire HR staff does a great job of trying to put you at ease. On Day 1, Amy will show you around the facility and give you a detailed explanation about how the testing will go. Testing will consist of 3 tests (cog, personality, general knowledge). If you pass the testing, you will be invited back to Day 2. On Day 2, you will be briefed on how the panel interview and SBI will go before the fun starts. It felt like Day 2 went by fast. You will not necessarily have the panel interview before the SBI. Each interview will be about an hour.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 1-6 months
Did you attend a job fair? Yes
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Obtaining 1,000 hrs ME PIC and personal endorsement.
How many internal recs did you have? 1-2
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 4 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? No, they didn’t ask a single question about it.
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? I did the 15 day study plan with RST. After the 15 days, I went back and concentrated most of my time on aerodynamics and engine systems. I also made sure I understood all the concept in the math trainer. This was because I heard most of the questions concentrated around those 2 subjects. For the COG test, when I started scoring in the 850-950 range, I felt confident that I was ready.
Technical Test Questions My actual test had maybe 20 questions regarding aero and engine knowledge. I had a bunch of questions on navigation and electrical systems. I was fairly certain I bombed the GK test. Apparently this is normal because everyone who tested in my group felt the same way.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? I don’t remember any specific questions but the math questions have way more information than you actually need. It can be a little challenging deciphering what info you need to solve the problem. I did have a question that gave me the lat/long of 2 different airports and asked the distance between them.
Cog Test Cog test was easier that the RST COG trainer. If you feel confident with the RST trainer, you will be fine.
Cog Math Questions Easier than the COG trainer math questions.
HR Questions The panel interview and SBI go by quickly. However, I was not confident leaving the interviews. I was questioned extensively about some failures I had during pilot training. I owned up to them, didn’t make excuses and answered their questions directly but my answers didn’t seem to satisfy them. From that point forward, I felt like I was on the defense for the rest of the interview. Looking back on it now, this was probably designed to see how I reacted when they put some pressure on me. In regards to the SBI, they are looking for someone to make a decision and brief up a plan. You can pretty much fix everything in the debrief but you need to make a decision. During the debrief, it felt like they were trying to get me to change my decision. I didn’t change the decision (even though they make it tempting) and explained in detail why I felt like it was the best decision for me. No decision is wrong and every option sucks, but just be prepared to explain why you did what you did.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 2 weeks
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? ECIC. I highly recommend using them. I doubt it would have worked out if I didn’t use them.
Any additional information you would like to add.
Is their anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process?
