Which Airline did you interview with? | Delta |
How many days between invite, interview, and listed availability? | Invite to interview: 7 weeks, Interview to availability: 2 weeks |
Did you receive a job offer? | Yes |
If you did not receive the CJO why do you think you weren’t chosen to continue in the process? | N/A |
What is your experience? | Military |
Total Flight Time | 4,000-5,000 |
Total Turbine PIC Time | 1,000-2,000 |
General Overview of Experience | The pilot selection team was very welcoming and excited to hire everyone. Hard to believe they do this day after day. |
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? | 6-12 months |
Did you attend a job fair? | No |
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? | Had a friend submit an internal recommendation and received the invite just inside of 4 weeks later. |
How many internal recs did you have? | 1-2 |
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? | 4 weeks |
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? | Not at all. I took my folder of AF records and my civilian logbook without additional electronic summaries and there were no questions whatsoever regarding paperwork. |
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? | RST prepared me for JKT and COG. I crammed for both in the days leading up to the interview and although I felt good about COG, I thought JKT kicked my butt. Chief of hiring said “congrats to those who were offered a CJO with bad JKT scores, you’re continuing a trend I started years ago!” That was definitely me. |
Technical Test Questions | As others have said, it’s usually easy to eliminate two answers, but I was unsure on the remaining two for many questions. |
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? | A Jepp airfield diagram question without any legend threw me for a loop. |
Cog Test | The RST trainer (the associated webinar is a must!!!!) prepped me for the COG test. The biggest difference was the difference in the way the LOC style task behaves. It speeds up as the deviation increases and sometimes requires multiple button presses in the same direction to get it to reverse course. This was a surprise as I was on the multitasking event already. |
Cog Math Questions | I only had a couple. Read the answers to help identify which are even viable. |
HR Questions | Tell me about yourself in 5 mins re: the shaping of your aviation career. Asked about a downgrade on a past sim eval and if I thought the training was adequate. How specifically do you talk to colleagues that are generations younger than you. FAs arrive harried and not motivated to board pax who are already late from another flight. CA wants to run all checklists from memory…on multiple legs of the trip…does it end with a talk or call pro-standards/chief pilot? Asked why Delta when I come from an area that has strong United presence. Asked about a short stint at community college regarding my education resume. |
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? | 5 months |
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? | ECIC. It helped me prepare for the nature of the interview and to learn the dynamics of airline piloting interactions. The hiring team was adamant that HR prep is not required, but it certainly gave me some confidence that I otherwise would not have had. |
Any additional information you would like to add. | Lots of guys stay at the Hilton or Marriott, but I have to put a plug in for the Drury and its included breakfast and happy hour buffet with drinks. |
Is their anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? | I should have dedicated more time to RST and HR prep closer to my invite date. Cramming before the interview was bonkers. |
