General Overview of Experience Great experience. The team in the Pilot Hiring office really do their best to put you at ease and help you get through the day.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 12 months +
Did you attend a job fair? Yes
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? I am not a Delta ATP-CTP grad, so I did not have that silver bullet to use. I did, however, have current Delta pilots put in emails to Pilot Hiring (1 in NOV, another in Jan). I also attended the 2017 Pilot Expo, but I doubt that had any bearing on the invite.
How many internal recs did you have? 3-4
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 7 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? No
Technical Test Questions The RST program did a good job of preparing me for the JKT. I recognized about 50% of the questions; the others I had to take an educated guess. There was definitely a good amount of aero, systems, along with a few math problems, navigation, and approach plates. I used the entire 60 min.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? What do you lose/what is affected when the Electronic Fuel Control Unit fails? There were like 6-8 items in each possible answer. Also had a question about low-vis taxi lighting – what will you see when you are cleared for takeoff?
HR Questions This was very conversational. The panel definitely wanted to get to know you.
Personal questions from app (be ready for anything):
-Why Delta? (led off with this question)
-Why did you choose your college?
-I don’t see any flying in high school or college? Why not if you were so interested in flying?
-Why did you go to graduate school right after college instead of going straight to pilot training?
TMAATs:
-You recently had to make a hard at work? What was the outcome?
-Your most challenging job?
-Your most rewarding job?
WWYD’s:
-You’re the CA. You ask the FA to bring you a soda water with lime during boarding. A Pax is convinced it’s a gin & tonic.
-You’re a 777 CA heading to Narita. Near the top of descent, you get word there has been a natural disaster and the airport is closed.
-You’re the FO. You’re on approach nearing FAF. A t-storm is passing through over the field and the 2 planes ahead of you have gone around for windshear. Current WX update at the field is gusty winds but down the RWY and light rain.
-How are you going to handle holidays/significant events being the junior man?
Cog Test The COG trainer does a great job of getting you ready. The only surprise was that each test was much shorter than the trainer.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 2 months
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? ECIC, yes. I did not prepare canned answers outside of my 5 min intro. CA Holmes told us in his welcome brief that the HR panel can easily tell a canned answer and they question if the are seeing the real “you”.
Any additional information you would like to add. Thanks for a great product! There is no way I would have been able to prepare for this on my own.
Is there anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? Studying more systems outside of the turbine engine stuff. Saw questions on the ammeter, T/R, Elec fuel control.
