General Overview of Experience It was just like the other ride reports…they emphasize that they are selective when inviting folks to interview, so the expectation is they want to hire you. The sequence of events was as advertised.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 6-12 months
Did you attend a job fair? No
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? No, but my understanding is that Delta only scores the apps every few months at most (more like 1-2 per year). I first submitted with 3-4 recommendations and over about 2 months built it up to 6. I wonder if I had 6 off the bat if I’d have heard from them sooner. I recommend getting your app 100% squared away before submitting. I did use Kit Darby before submitting and ultimately heard from both Delta and United from that app.
How many internal recs did you have? 5+
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 6 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? I had not listed jobs previous to college graduation – they needed to know about any job I’d ever had that resulted in a W2, including high school and college.
Technical Test Questions In-line with RST. No human factors and Nav was limited to a few math questions, several holding entries, and a few runway lighting questions. Most everything else was aero and engineering.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? Nothing unexpected.
HR Questions Tell me about college and on in 5 min or less, why did you pick your college, tell me about this downed checkride, how did you get good grades (secret to success?), describe the leader you admire the most and why.
TMAAT you helped someone, TMAAT your most difficult emergency/flight, TMAAT you had a conflict with a co-worker.
WWYD if the flight attendants running late – how can you help?…didn’t really know what they wanted. I said I’d hold boarding and get help from gate agents, red-coats, etc.
The Captain has been fast and high consistently, WWYD – they carried this one out a bit. I think to see if/when I’d go to the company.
Overall they were very welcoming and while it’s a still a formal interview they certainly try to put you at ease. During the hypotheticals I tried to think out loud – assumed they were more interested in my thought process than my ability to crack the scenario. They didn’t give feedback, but I left feeling like it went well.
Cog Test I’m not sure why RST does’t link to this from the COG Training site or 15 Day Program, but watch Tito’s video: https://readysettakeoff.com/jetbrain-game-training/
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 8 months
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? ECIC – yes. 3x webinars, 2x top-offs (2 interviews).
Any additional information you would like to add. No.
Is there anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? Nothing significant.
