General Overview of Experience The whole interview process was extremely friendly, relaxed, and almost fun! It really felt more like a bunch of old pilots telling stories.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 12 months +
Did you attend a job fair? No
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Endeavor Pilot guaranteed interview program
How many internal recs did you have? 1-2
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 7 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? None. They didn’t even mention them.
Technical Test Questions No issues. Saw a few questions that I hadn’t seen before, but they were the same topics as all the other questions.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? Nothing on the knowledge test was too hard. The COG math was the hardest thing I saw. Doing reverse percentage questions in my head in 30 seconds isn’t going to happen. I’m sure I failed that part of the test.
HR Questions Introduction. Review, initial, and sign printed application. (20 minutes)
Tell us about yourself from high school until now.
What do you see as the most negative thing about working for Delta?
What are 3 traits of a good captain?
How do you set the tone in the cockpit?
How do you stay sharp and academically / mentally ready for the job?
What would youdo if you lost your medical certificate?
What was the most stressful experience you have had in the cockpit?
WWYD? You are a new 737 FO at FL 370. You are the PM. There are thunderstorms 150 miles ahead. The captain declares that she flies this route 4 times a month and she always passes above the WX at that point. She doesn’t want a turn because it is the last leg and she wants the flight in on time. She is sure you will pass safely over the WX, but you don’t think so.
WWYD? Waiting in line at JFK for 2 hours, and you are informed by ATC that the deice truck is broken and it will take 30 minutes to repair. The FA advises that there are some pax that want off.
WWYD? Waiting in line at JFK for 40 minutes and pax want off?
What base would you like to be assigned to at Delta?
How will you handle commuting to NYC?
How does your family handle your frequent absences?
Cog Test By far, the hardest part of the process. I thought I failed. Some of the tests were easier than the practice, some were harder. They were definitely shorter than the practice tests. Don’t get too excited if you feel like you failed part of the COG. I am SURE that I did, but I still passed the overall. I think that accuracy is more important than speed. What’s the point of being fast if you answer incorrectly?
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 3 weeks. Wanted to do it sooner but I also had my recurrent checkride 25 days before my interview and didn’t want to shortchange that. Didn’t want a checkride failure 3 weeks before interview!
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? Cage-Marshall: Attended two ALPA sponsored Cage-Marshall prep seminars. Paid for the full Cage-Marshall package, to include Application Review, 2-hr HR prep session, 1-hr HR prep “top-off” just before the interview. NOTE: Schedule your HR prep session IMMEDIATELY as soon as you get an interview date. They are booking 4-6 weeks out all the time.
I also used Aerocrew Solutions for HR prep. 3 hr one-on-one in person about 3 weeks prior. This service was very helpful and comprehensive.
Any additional information you would like to add. I studied the Quizlet questions almost exclusively. It wasn’t until I started the 15-day checklist that I discovered that there are a LOT of questions on the RST website that were not inclueded in the Quizlet tests. The topics were generally the same, but I had no idea until 15-days out that there were a bunch of questions that I hadn’t ever seen.
Is there anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? The RST 15-day checklist should be a 30-day checklist. I spent too much time on the GKT and not enough time on the COG and HR. I wish I had thought of my HR stories months in advance, instead of waiting so near the interview date. The whole preparation process really needs to be started 6-12 months out in my opinion. That will allow you to really absorb the material and LEARN it as opposed to trying to simply memorize it which is your only choice if you wait too long.
