Which Airline did you interview with? Delta
How many days between invite, interview, and listed availability? 4 weeks invite to Interview
Did you receive a job offer? No, 6 months re-invite, Cog Failure
If you did not receive the CJO why do you think you weren’t chosen to continue in the process? COG test
What is your experience? Military
Total Flight Time 3,000-4,000
Total Turbine PIC Time >2,000
General Overview of Experience The whole process although stressful was very pleasant. They team at Delta are truly top notch and awesome to interview with. I actually felt like I let them down by not meeting the standard. Can’t say enough good things about the experience.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 1-6 months
Did you attend a job fair? No
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Internal rec
How many internal recs did you have? 3-4
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 4 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? None. Don’t over think it. Follow the directions and you’ll be fine whether your civilian or prior military.
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? Read everything explained for the professional pilot. Study the concepts from RST and took the practice exams. Started practicing the COG trainer daily for about 10 days prior. Should have done that way sooner.
Technical Test Questions Data on RST is a good starting point but do not expect the questions to be the exact same. Mastery of the concepts is key. I had a wuaution about what does the symbol on 32l at JFK mean on jeppeson airport chart.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? The questions themselves weren’t that difficult it was being able to choose the most correct answer. I recommend taking the practice exams on RST and then actually diving into the concepts on the questions from RST that you can’t explain the correct answer.
Cog Test Practice this till it becomes second nature. Read the directions and be aware that when first do the symbol matching test it’s for real a lot of my interview got caught off guard since we expected to a have practice exam. RST’s trainer is very accurate.
Cog Math Questions Easier than RST but don’t leave it to chance.
HR Questions Very straight forward. If you demonstrate a good decision making process I felt this was the easiest part of the day. My experience was very much text book from all the other ride reports.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 3 weeks
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? Emerald coast podcast only. The one takeaway is they really want to hear how you would approach the problem not some canned answer.
Any additional information you would like to add.
Is their anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? Don’t underestimate the COG or the JKT. If you’re right at the 700 level in the COG you need to work on that.
