General Overview of Experience Great experience. Very relaxed. Recommend getting there 45 minutes early. Lots of employees walking around and lots of friendly conversations take place before the actual interview. Process starts with two employees taking you into a conference room and gathering your log books and paperwork. They hand you a copy of your Airlineapps.com application and have you make corrections with a red pen. No need to change flight times if within 100hrs. My printed off app was at least 30 days old since I had some information I had changed just prior to taking the Hogan but was not changed on the app they provided.
HR PANEL: One CA, one HR rep. They do a great job of putting you at ease. Bring two copies of your resume.
They explain they are looking for answers in the SAR format that reference a professional experience. Be specific but not too wordy. Standard “Tell me how you got here/interested in aviation/about your resume” to start. About five TMAAT questions: failed at being a leader, convinced someone to do something they didn’t want to, coworker broke a SOP, time you overcame adversity, dealt with an emergency. Finally, why United?
TSA: One CA. They take you to a room with a computer hooked up to a laptop and provide you a company iPad. Brief a short flight. Start at a gate and brief the taxi out, SID, STAR, approach and taxi in. As you’re going through different areas, expect side questions. Briefing the taxi, what are the hot spots. Climbing out, what is the top altitude and what is it if vectored off the SID. Approach, what’s the MSA…. Brief it just like you do at your current job. Also, have a game plan if you have to divert. They’ll bring up a profile view for the climb out, approach, and go around. Just recite the callouts and actions from the packet they send you. You’ll run the checklist for one minor caution message. CRM video is about 90 seconds long. I wrote down a couple things the crew could’ve done better and briefed them to the captain at the end.
The whole process for eight applicants took about two and a half hours. I’ve interviewed at several airlines and this was by far the most relaxed environment. They do an amazing job of making it a low threat environment and really want to get to know you as a person. Just study the packet, have a handful of stories, and remember to smile, you should actually enjoy this interview.
