Which Airline did you interview with? Delta Air Lines
How many days between invite, interview, and listed availability?
Did you receive a job offer? Yes
If you did not receive the CJO why do you think you weren’t chosen to continue in the process? N/A
What is your experience? Military
Total Flight Time 2,000-3,000
Total Turbine PIC Time >2,000
General Overview of Experience They did their best to put you at ease throughout the entire process. Very professional and first class all the way.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 1-6 months
Did you attend a job fair? Yes
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Email to Pilot Recruitment by active CA.
How many internal recs did you have? 5+
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 4 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? None. Follow the instructions. No need to go overboard.
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? RST 15 Day program. It is essential. I would not have gotten CJO without it.
Technical Test Questions JKT is tough because it will be different than the RST prep. KNOW THE CONCEPTS!! You can always eliminate two of the answers. There are four choices vice the three on RST.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? Similarities between LDA and ILS approach. One is precision, the other non-precision. I forgot what I chose but read the answers carefully.
Cog Test RST game practice was invaluable. The RST site is modern. The look of the test program at Delta is not modern. Think of one step above pacman. All the screens are very basic so don’t let it get in your loop. Having practiced a bunch on RST, I thought the COG was fairly easy. They are randomly ordered and in my case I had three pop ups for the number / symbol. None of the games lasts more than 45 seconds. It is pretty good about when letting you know when you are practicing or are in it for real. Only one that wasn’t was the math in my opinion. I was ripping through the questions and it basically stops and says scoring your results now. Luckily I was doing well. Not sure if I hit the wrong button.
Some things of note:
• Everything is slower than RST. Be ready for it.
• Flagman goes fast. I think it was about 20 seconds. Know the exceptions from the RST webinar (upright facing you and upside down facing away). Seemed about 70% fell into that category.
• Practice the center the jet and do the numbers a couple of times. Line moves slower and the numbers are much slower. Good to get the pace down before jumping in.
• My symbol thing was UXLT-O. I will probably be able to remember it forever. I forget the name of the test but the screen lets you know a pop up for it is about to occur. Don’t hit next until you are ready.Make sure you sign into the COG webinar. Great information!!
Cog Math Questions Much easier. No issue to figure out in your head quickly.
HR Questions • Tell us about yourself starting high school in 5 minutes or less
• Hit me right of the bat with poor grades at first college. By the time I was done, they were laughing at me which I took to be a good sign.
• Weather delay and CA doesn’t want to make PA. Two polite challenges and then asked to do it myself. Then they hand me a water bottle and ask me to make it. I took a breath. I will try to type it as I remember: “Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen from the flight deck, as you can see out the windows we have a line of storms over Atlanta, I apologize but we are going to be delayed pushing back until they pass. We estimate it will be 20-30 minutes. In the interim, we are working with dispatch to see if we can make up some time enroute and we will have customer service reps on hand when we land to get you to your connections as quickly as possible. Again, we apologize for the delay and we should be pushing back shortly.” I ended it by looking at the retired CA and he had a look like wow. I took it to be a very good sign. Basically looking to empathize with passengers, keep them informed, and let them know you are doing everything you can to minimize the pain of the delay.
• Tell me about an emergency that you had (bring in the whole team and how you effectively managed the situation).
• Tell me when you provided outstanding customer service.
• Tell me a difficult training story (remember positive).
• Tell me about this check ride failure.
• How did you prepare for deployment (I think they meant just me but I used as a chance to get some supervise points on how we got the unit ready. I think it went well.
– Are you going to join the reserves?
– When are you actually retired?
• Why Delta?
• If hired, where would you like to be based?
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 3 months
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? ECIC. In person seminar is a must dance in my opinion.
Any additional information you would like to add. Personality Test (not MMPI-2)
There is a not a lot of info out there for this. It is 240 questions with Strongly Agree, Agree, Neutral, Disagree, and Strongly Disagree. I emailed a friend who was hired recently. His words are paraphrased here. ‘Stay away from the extremes and avoid neutral when you can’. By the time I was done, I think I had only five answers in the strongly category and no neutrals. I did go back through the test at one point because there was another question that was similar to prior question and asked a different way than a previous one. I made sure I was consistent. Don’t read too much into the question. Remember, you are social person, like to be in crowds, and are not afraid to travel or meet new people. That is the sort of thing you want to pay attention to. Be as honest as you can be and stay away from the extremes.• Join RST for the COG tests and do the 15 day program.
• Figure out how you are going to get at least four hours every day with ZERO interruptions to study.
• PT. I swam everyday but Sunday for about the last month. Good chance to process HR related questions and run over concepts in my mind.
• Use a prep service. ECIC was great for me. Remember though, they are ready for canned answers and are good at getting you off script.
• Look your absolute best.
Is their anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? Nothing. 15 Day Program is the way to go in addition to the files on the FB page and the Ground School lessons.
