Which Airline did you interview with? Delta Air Lines
How many days between invite, interview, and listed availability?
Did you receive a job offer? Yes
If you did not receive the CJO why do you think you weren’t chosen to continue in the process?
What is your experience? 121 only
Total Flight Time 5,000-8,000
Total Turbine PIC Time >2,000
General Overview of Experience They do a good job of trying to put you at ease, it doesn’t work but they try. Really the waiting around is the hardest part; make sure you eat something, the cafeteria is really very good.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 12 months +
Did you attend a job fair? No
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? I had several internal recs in the spring, cleaned up my address and job history, I really don’t know what triggered the interview. It may be that they are pumping so many bodies through that it was finally my turn.
How many internal recs did you have? 3-4
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 4 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? No issues with the logbooks(just paper ones) they didn’t even mention them. They did want salaries all the way back in my job history even for hourly summer jobs, the HR lady said I could guess but they wanted a number.
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? They COG trainer makes that portion of the testing really a non event. The teeter totter was the only significant change and you can practice as much as you want, slow your roll and you will do fine. The JKT was my biggest worry, I studied all the material on RST; tests, flashcard trainers, went through the study guides. I was through all the questions (60) in 40 minutes marked 6, changed some answers. I feel that I was pretty lucky in my bank of questions, one radial arc question and it was at 60 DME. Some guys had 6 math problems.
Technical Test Questions The concepts for the technical questions is covered completely on RST, the wording is really very tricky on the test. I had some runway lighting questions, fwd vs aft CG in relation to fuel burn and stability. Several hold entry questions with a bunch of extra information that was not relevant. A XC wind question, all things that you have seen before if you have gone over all the test/flashcard material.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? I had a forward slip to landing question and what the inputs would be that took a while, I haven’t stepped on a rudder is quite some time (10+ years). A TO/FROM question about a VOR with really poor wording. A question about having the nose wheel on the ground before reverse thrust and why that was important. All of the answers (4) per question can be narrowed to a 50/50, not too bad overall.
Cog Test Not a big, deal the stylus is really a nice change from my mouse.
Cog Math Questions I could have missed them all or gone 50% I don’t think I was much higher than that. They only thing I will say is I think you have longer than the trainer. I had that 30 second clock running in my head and when I was getting close I would give an educated guess, none of them disappeared on me.
HR Questions Tell me about yourself from HS, what do you bring to Delta, 20 meals short delay question (I delayed) into 50 people are missing international flights (now we are going) I went back and told the business class why they are not getting fed, they had me give the speech, comp them some how they seemed okay with it, Captain no noise abatement all the way into me getting off the plane and pro standards. Loud bang at 13,000 feet what are you going to do, I turned back explained why. I had heard every question they had for me, with the exception of what types of airplanes does Delta fly and which one do you want, if you aren’t ready for that one, “come’on man!”
Day two, the chat with the psychologist is a interview, and was structured as such, tell me about a conflict, bad decision, leadership style, stressful time how you dealt with it, what would you do if you couldn’t fly, They are very nice, 2 ladies on my day but flagged two guys from my group. They are psychologists, but not your psychologists, keep all the kinky stuff to yourself. The MMPI on day two is easily the worst/most boring part of all the testing.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 4 weeks
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? Emerald Coast, helped immensely.
Any additional information you would like to add.
Is their anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process?
