General Overview of Experience Very professional and personable people running the show in ATL. They made jokes saying it doesn’t matter if you take your jacket off or not or drink the water or where you sit in the conference room when they brief you all on how the day will go. They know how much this day means to you, how much you have prepared, what is on the line. They take a genuine interest in your success and in the end, they are just normal people too.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 6-12 months
Did you attend a job fair? No
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Endeavor DGI
How many internal recs did you have? 1-2
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 6 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? Logbooks were closed up on another table, never talked about them. Application, I put 4 years down for college even though it took me 5 years to complete. I must have misunderstood how they wanted this filled out because they had me change it to 5 years on the app.
Technical Test Questions RST does an awesome job at preparing you for the knowledge test. I may have been lucky in the questions but I felt I had plenty of time to get through everything and at most I think I got 5 wrong. There are many things I studied with RST that were never on the test, not much aerodynamics. Not much engine material. Simple math problems about fuel burn and holding, distance and time to descend. What kind of hold entry. When to slow to 250 over the ocean approaching coast. General private pilot knowledge things, ex. PAPI indications.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? N/A
HR Questions 5 min intro. Spent 20 minutes asking questions off of my app. Why this school? Why so many speeding tickets? How did school prepare you well for transition to a jet? What did they not do well? What recent event will have a lasting impact on aviation? What makes someone a professional? TMAAT you had a challenging day at work. Are you honest with pax? WWYD if you got a fire indication and it went out 5 seconds later, would you tell pax? What if you shut down the engine and it went out, would you tell them it was on fire? You new CA, seasoned FO, he/she is doing your flows. Full flight, gate wants to board early, but FA’s are late from their inbound flight, walk us through your process of dealing with this. Company is asking you the night before to take a shorter report time in the am to get out on time. You say yes, hang up, then FA’s say no way. What do you owe Delta on your days off? What do they owe you?
Cog Test Overall easier than RST trainer. But, always assume you are taking the real test, even if you think you are doing one of the practice tests, it can be confusing. It’s an old computer program. The stylus pen works great compared to a mouse at home. But definitely practice a lot in the weeks before the interview. This week was tough with cog failures it seems.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 4 weeks
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? Emerald Coast, it was excellent. They don’t just give you canned answers like some say, the webinars are great ways for you to practice being put on the spot. And they just help you polish the product that is you.
Any additional information you would like to add. One thing that doesn’t seem to be brought up much is the personality test day 1 and the psychological test day 2. For both of them, be truthful. If you seem too perfect, they think you’re lying. Nobody is perfect. The personality test was another place that some had issues with my day.
Is there anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? Absolutely not, I was freaking out the night before thinking I hadn’t done enough, covered enough topics on RST or Emerald Coast. But come prepared, study RST at least 6 weeks out if able, I did it 8 weeks out. Do that and you’ll be successful.
