If you did not receive the CJO why do you think you weren’t chosen to continue in the process? N/A
What is your experience? Military/135

Total Turbine PIC Time >2,000
General Overview of Experience Great experience as all other reports have said. Everyone is welcoming. They truly want to put you at ease and have you succeed. Format has not changed…meet in people department for introductions to other interviewees, paperwork turn in and fingerprinting followed by company briefing by chief of pilot hiring. After that is done they walk you over to another building for the three parts of the interview. HR, LOI and Logbook review. The order is random.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 12 months +
Did you attend a job fair? No
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Not that I am aware of. I’ve had my pilot credentials profile in for longer than I can remember. I created my profile on the SWA careers page on Dec 29th and got the interview invite Jan 4th so maybe the careers page profile triggered something.
How many internal recs did you have? 5+
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 3 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? No, but as others have stated I think no matter how tight you think your stuff is the interviewer will throw something at you to see how you handle some sort of conflict. I had my entire military flying history tabbed with all pertinent data, an excel spreadsheet breaking out all my time, 12, 24, 36, 48 and 60 month summaries, an overall summary sheet and a word document explaining everything. The interviewer still asked me how I came up with my totals and when I explained it he said I shouldn’t have used secondary time. I humbly told him it must have been my mistake (the instructions clearly state you can’t use “other time”) and he handed me a calculator to add up my times without secondary time. After adding up two things he said “don’t worry about it you’ve got much more than our required mins,” and started asking me HR type questions. Something like this has happened to everyone I know who’s interviewed with SWA recently.
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? N/A
Technical Test Questions N/A
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? N/A
Cog Test
Cog Math Questions
HR Questions I had the HR portion first with one person from the people department and one second year FO. As stated before they really want you to relax and it honestly felt more like a conversation than an interview, obviously don’t let your guard down though. The jacket thing…in all three portions they told me to do what I felt comfortable doing so I left it on for the HR and off for the LOI and logbook review. They really could care less what you do.
HR started off with tell me about yourself, why you got interested in flying and then we went over the resume. I went over every assignment/job I’ve had and talked each of them up like it was the greatest thing ever hitting all the positive aspects of each and the oppprtunities each one presented me. Next was why SWA? TMAAT you had an emergency? TMAAT you flew with someone you didn’t get along with? TMAAT you gave great customer service? What do you think will be the hardest thing going from an IP to a new FO? What are three qualities of a good FO? Then they asked me if I had any questions. I asked both of them how they like SWA. They were happy to tell me how much they love the company.
LOI-No different than anything else you’ve read. IMHO, I honestly don’t think what you end up doing matters at all. They will tell you it will be the fastest 7 minutes of your life and it was. My opinion for the LOI is: 1: use good CRM, contact appropriate outside agencies and make a decision before the clock hits 0, and 2: I think this is more important-give a good debrief of the scenario. I used about 3 things “we” did well, 5 or 6 things “I” could have done better and 3 things “I” would have done differently if I had more time. After the debrief the two pilots asked a few questions…Tell us about yourself. What is your current job? What were your previous jobs? Why SWA?
Logbook review-(See logbook section above) after the logbook review the Capt asked several HR type questions: Why SWA? Who do you have other apps in with? TMAAT you had to deal with a difficult passenger? TMAAT you had to make a difficult decision? If I walked into your current office what would your co-workers say about you?
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 2 weeks.
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? Cage Consulting. I did two 1 hr phone interviews to have them listen to my answers and provide feedback. It was perfect for me. I was very happy with the service.
Any additional information you would like to add. I’ve seen a lot of people say the interview starts when you park at the airport, but I would say it starts when you call to book your ticket. This is my opinion only, but it seems they intentionally have you call reservations and then get a handwritten ticket issued at the counter to see how you deal with people in different situations. Make sure you introduce yourself to the ticket agents, the gate agents, the MX people on the jetway, and the entire crew on both flights. If they are not busy, talk with the FAs during the flights. It’s a small world…you never know who can have an impact on your success getting hired…the Capt on the flight going to DAL was in the military unit a very good friend of mine is the Commander of. I don’t know if it helped, but I’m sure it didn’t hurt my chances.
Is their anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? No
