WWYD Questions:
– You’re the Capt, line of thunderstorms, there is a gap but Mod or worse turb, 20 min to go around.
– You are FO, you and Capt are late (due to no fault of your own) and passengers are already boarding, little old lady grabs your sleeve and is concerned that she can see her dog on the ramp and she thinks he won’t make the flight (follow up was now you’re in front and get a light indicating that the heat in the cargo bay is out…ie sparky is gonna freeze).
– You’re FO, halfway through trip, you and Capt have a beer at the hotel, you leave him there and go get dinner, you come back and he’s still at the bar with a beer at 8+05 to push in the morning… ok now it’s 7+55 to push…
– You’re Capt, you notice at your first stop the FO is not wearing his hat in the terminal.
Only TMAAT question I got at the end: TMAAT you made a flying related decision and you didn’t know what the outcome would be or how your decision would impact the outcome.
Cog Test In the absence of the RST COG trainer, RST’s alternate resources were more than adequate especially given that you get to practice each exercise as much as you want during the testing before you test each exercise.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? Started 2 months prior, but took a 5-6 week break to concentrate on knowledge test, and then brushed up during the last week before the interview (I was working full time throughout, but had plenty of time especially given all the resources).
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? ECIC – Yes, I would do it again. In hindsight, even though there was some input that I would disagree with, as a 100% mil guy with no 121 experience, the training was needed. The answering strategies as well as learning what questions were likely was essential for me.
Any additional information you would like to add. Day 2 shrink, 1-on-1 interview: Lots of softballs, but I’ll list the questions I remember as I think you do need to be careful. Interestingly, during the HR interview, the non-verbal feedback was immediate; I could easily tell if the 2 Capt’s and the HR rep were picking up what I was laying down. On the other hand, the Shrink was totally Stone Cold Steve Austin; she never let on in any fashion how I was doing.
– Tell me about a formative experience in your youth.
– What was your best assignment and your worst assignment and why?
– Give me 3-5 words to describe yourself (1 I included out of honesty in the moment was “creative” – she latched onto that immediately, apparently I explained it well).
– TMA the most stressful time in your life, how you handled it and what helped.
– TMA conflict at work and how you handled it.
– Disclose any violations of the law to include traffic tickets.
– Do you drink alcohol and if you do what does consumption look like over the course of a day, week, month…
“Thank you that’s it we’re finished” with a straight face and a handshake.
Is there anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? No – I wasn’t super confident, but I wanted to make sure that if I didn’t get a yes there wouldn’t be something that I wished I had done that I hadn’t. Probably over-prep’d, but it gave me confidence as the two-day process went on.
