TPIC Military hours 1000-2000

General Overview of Experience This was an unbelievable experience. All stress was self induced. The schedule for the day mirrored what others have said in your Ride Reports. I had my HR interview in the morning and Tested in the afternoon. Before the interviews start, the Chief Pilot for Pilot Selection, Barry Holmes, speaks with the group and really puts the entire situation at ease while talking about the process. This portion was a tremendous help to me, i.e… setting the tone for the rest of the day. All of the actual events are explained below. I read a Ride Report earlier that referenced “FAKE NEWS” and that individual is exactly correct. Everyone at Delta is super friendly and very professional. If you are the same, you should not have any problems.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 1-6 months
Did you attend a job fair? No
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Not that I know of. Continued to update my app.
How many internal recs did you have? 1-2
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 8 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? Log books were looked at and my personal excel summary sheet converting military time to civilian time was looked at and kept, but there were no questions asked. I was asked about my availability date on the app, which was a week off, so i changed it in the interview- they had me initial it. They then asked if there were any other changes to my application, which there was not, and then I signed it Another candidate, who was also given a CJO, did not have a sealed college transcript from a secondary college he attend. The interview team kind of made a big deal out of it, so make sure your get a official, sealed transcript from every college/university you attended. Just follow the checklist that is provided.
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? RST 15 day checklist in a 30 day period. In my opinion, you would really have to hustle to get it done in 15 days. Really what I’m getting at is give yourself as much time as possible. I backed it up with “Everything Explained for the Professional Pilot”.
Technical Test Questions There may have only been 1-2 questions that were directly from RST so you really need to read and study the concepts. It seemed like you could eliminate at least 2 of the 4 answers on every question. The math questions were not overly tough, RST fully prepares you. I did have one were you had to sort through a lot of information that was not needed. So figure out what the question is asking and take it from there. Overall, if you prepare by learning the concepts, you will be fine.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? There really was not a question or concept that was tougher than anything else. There is a lot of information to cover so do not wait to start you JKT preparation.
Cog Test The concepts and practice on RST will fully prepare you for it. The real test is slower than the RST. You differently have more time with the math questions. Make sure to read all of the directions. There seems to be practice for every test so use it to “re-cage” your brain to what you have been practicing. If you follow the 15 day checklist and do the Cog test when it tells you to, you will be prepared.
Cog Math Questions As stated above, the math questions were about the same on a difficultly level but you have more time.
HR Questions The HR portion was broken into two sections. First about your history/your application. Then second, how you think/WWYD. It is not a good cop, bad cop and they are not out to get you. They are trying to verify what you put on your application, i.e… what got you the interview. They will have reviewed your application before time and will have some questions ready. After that they will probably ask followup questions depending on how you answered the original ones. Be ready to explain any red marks on you application. The second part is generally looking at your decision making process. There was not a WWYD question that I was asked that I probably had not thought about in one aspect or another. They do not want canned answers. Even if you could have a prepared answer to every question they will ask followup questions to these depending on how you answer them. None of my questions were out of the ordinary, one divert, one go around one customer service and one disagreement with a captain. These will spin off into tangent questions. Be verbal and explain what you are thinking This entire HR interview is generally a conversation about you and how you will fit at Delta. Be yourself and tell them about the person you are. No TMAAT questions all of those came the second day in the psych eval.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? Unknowingly, for my entire professional career but I started with ECIC right after I received the invite.
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? ECIC. They helped greatly. I had all the information but they will help organize it and be able to communicate it.
Any additional information you would like to add. Its hard to tell why some people get the CJO and others do not. Prepare and then go in and “leave it all on the table”. If you get an interview, Delta wants to hire you. Prove to them you are the person from the application.
Is there anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? No- RST and ECIC are invaluable.
