General Overview of Experience This was my six month re-interview. Although I was successful, I feel an extreme lack of sleep leading up to my interview negatively impacted my performance. I took vacation before my first interview but did not have the luxury this time. Being tired was the single most difficult part of my second interview. I even took melatonin and sleepy time tea but slept very little. As everyone mentions everyone is friendly and professional. They really do want to put you at ease and are just validating who you are on paper.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 12 months +
Did you attend a job fair? Yes
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Delta Job fair 2017.
How many internal recs did you have? 3-4
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 8 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? None at all. I have an electronic log book and before my second interview I obtained my airline training records and added in my simulator time. I made sure all times in my log book matched my airline apps and printed out a summary sheet to make it easier for the interviewers. I use log ten pro for my logbook and Logbook solutions for my binder and paper which I highly recommend. I also tabbed all my check rides.
Technical Test Questions One descent question using 3-1 rule but you had to be carful and give the answer in relation to distance to a VOR. This question was very similar to one in the math trainer of RST.
What does the diffuser do? The only two choices that made any sense were “increase potential energy” or “static pressure energy” I put the second.
Had to use 60/1 rule to find how many miles were covered on a DME arc at 15 DME and told you went from 135 radial to 120 radial. How many miles did you fly on the arc?
When conducting a missed approach you must maintain what altitude prior to any turns? Only two answers that made any sense, “missed approach altitude” or “MDA/DA”. I put the second but the other people I talked to who got it put the first. My reasoning is I know you are supposed to climb to missed approach altitude as soon as you decided to go missed but continue laterally to the MAP. Almost all missed approach procedures do not require you to be at the “missed approach altitude” prior to a turn.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? Not applicable
HR Questions Talked a lot about my work history and various jobs beginning in high school. Check ride failures. What other airlines did you apply at, leading to why Delta. TMAAT your authority as a leader was challenged. Then hey had binder full of canned questions. Each interviewer took a one or two turns sliding their finger down the page and randomly picking a question. First class customer has too many bags WWYD? Passengers standing around talking in foreign language acting suspiciously says flight attendant WWYD? Best piece of advice whatever you decide to do, do not let them talk you into changing your answer after you made a decision.
Cog Test Don’t forget the symbols and letters section because they ask again later after about three more sections. When keeping the localizer line in the middle with the keyboard this is MUCH harder than you would think because as soon as it starts to get away from the middle it requires a lot of key strokes to get it back to the middle but if you do too much it will fly off the other end.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? One year
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? Lori Clark and I give her my highest recommendation because you get one on one personalized learning. Not a puppy mill HR prep mentality. Make sure to book her early .
Any additional information you would like to add. For those of you with 6-month invites hang in there and chip away at something every single day. DO NOT spend the last 48 hours cramming and constantly letting different scenarios run through your mind. Do take some time off before the interview to relax and have adequate sleep.
Is there anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? The only thing I wish I did was not have a work trip before the interview getting home at 2 am only to turn around the next day to go to Atlanta.
