General Overview of Experience Very professional, and very welcoming and friendly.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 12 months +
Did you attend a job fair? Yes
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? I had one or two internal recommendations during the past year and I attended the career fair in October.
How many internal recs did you have? 3-4
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 8 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? None. I have never made the jump to electronic logbooks, so I dragged 3 Jeppesen master pilot logbooks and my first logbook (the little black one that comes with the student pilot kit) in with me. The interview team joked that they closely examined every page. But they had no issues. During the interview they asked me to review and initial a few spots on my application (busted checkride, a single speeding ticket from 20+ years ago, etc). And they clarified a question about a downgrade that I answered in the negative but wasn’t sure (I was downgraded due to company reductions, not a job performance issue like the question led me to believe).
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? I had 8 weeks to prepare between the invite and the interview, so I was able to run through the JKT stuff a few times. I probably did the “15 day checklist” at least three times. I went into the cog not feeling too confident, but as previous reviewers have noted, the actual test is slower. Be sure to practice the symbol/letter/number substitution thing, as the test GOES BACK a few minutes later to see if you recall it.
Technical Test Questions I can’t recall too many specific questions, it seemed like a good mix of the topics covered by RST. As stated before, read the question and each answer carefully.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? One question I do remember was a holding time calculation. The question presented about 15+ different variables and in the end it was a simple division problem. The real question was sorting out the noise and figuring out the numbers you really need.
Cog Test As I said above, the real test is slower. Practice on RST and you’ll be fine.
Cog Math Questions
HR Questions The actual HR interview was very friendly. Just pilots talking about flying really. But try to frame your answers around safety, customer service, etc.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? My entire career really.
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? Aerocrew solutions, yes I believe it helped. The consultant helped me gather my thoughts and stories into scenarios I could apply to the questions.
Any additional information you would like to add. The meeting on day two with the psychologist surprised me. Much more of an interview than I thought it would be. All the questions about “your leadership style” and “how do you handle stressful situations” actually came during this portion. This conversation on day two, after you’ve received the CJO, is just as much an interview as anything on day one. Take it seriously.
Is there anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? I received a job offer, so not really. I feel good about the job I did.
