General Overview of Experience Very professional overall, as many before me have noted as well. As much as anything, it’s a war of attrition. The folks I had for HR were very friendly, and the retired pilot/ current pilot on my panel were certainly people you could see yourself flying with. For me personally, HR was in the morning and cog/JKT in the afternoon.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 12 months +
Did you attend a job fair? No
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Internal Rec
How many internal recs did you have? 1-2
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 6 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? None whatsoever.
Technical Test Questions I passed the JKT, and certainly studied hard for it. It’s important to note not everyone gets the same version of the test, obviously. I had Lat/long calculations, questions about pneumatic accumulators specifically, a few questions on lead radials, etc.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? Calculating Lat/Long
HR Questions In total, HR was about 45 minutes. A good chunk spent on your app, previous employment experiences, flight training, how you arrived at this point in your career. The rest were all WWYD questions, centered around decision making- low fuel situations in bad weather, how you would handle certain crew diffulties, etc. (flight attendants have informed you they’ve had a tough day, and want to delay boarding to get something to eat). They just want to see your thought process.
Cog Test Ultimately, this is what cost me the job. The very thing you may think is the easiest and take for granted, can come back to bite you. At the end of a long day, my brain was fried. Overall it wasn’t very difficult, but a few sections when you are tired become more difficult (if that makes sense). Remembering and matching symbols from sections before became a harder task.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 6 weeks
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? Emerald Coast. Certainly help organizing your thoughts.
Any additional information you would like to add. Prepare for it all. Don’t take any section of the interview for granted.
Is there anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? Gone through Cog excercises a little more thoroughly. Also, spent more time in the math section of the JKT. I had quite a few math questions. Even though you may pass the JKT, it’s important to remember it’s a combined score between the cog and jkt that they specifically look for (they don’t tell you what it is).
