General Overview of Experience Got invited to a phone screening 2 weeks after applying because of an internal recommendation. Phone screen was very basic for me this time. Basically walk my through your resume, work history etc. Then asked required legal questions like any DUIs, training failures, legal to work in US, etc. Then I was asked if I had any questions for them. Make sure you have a few ready. I was scheduled for my interview while I was on the phone however I’ve heard some friends waiting up to a week to hear if they’re getting an interview.
Interview was 3 parts. First a corporate presentation that talks about the company and HR is available for questions at the end. Pay attention because I’ve heard in the interview they could ask you something you learned during the presentation. No camera or mic required for this.
2nd part: HR interview via Microsoft Teams. I had a 777 southern CP, HR person, and an auditor watching the interviewers. Very laid back process. They really try to make you feel relaxed. Typical questions like Why Atlas or some form of this question, Walk through your resume, Some situation questions and TMAAT questions but nothing hard. Very tailored to your past jobs and skill set. Again they asked if I had questions so have some ready. 30ish minutes was all it took.
3rd part Tech panel. When you get invited to interview they will send a link to a study guide for tech. Know everything on that cold! The day before I was sent a document that was only 2 pages. A weather metar from russia that had some reports that we dont see in the states. More weather metars and tafs, Prognostic chart and an approach plate into JFK. Had another 777 CP for this. The panel was right to business again on Teams. Lots of basic aviation knowledge questions and most of the study guide topics were covered at some point. There was also stuff not covered on the guide asked. Like stages of climbs etc. You should have plenty of time to study before this interview so i suggest a good review of aviation materials. At the end it ver much switched from interviewer to just 2 pilots talking. Good time to ask questions again but very laid back discussions. Overall it was an easy process and more comfortable since you can be home in your own environment. I was told it could take up to 10 business days to hear a decision. They’re so backed up that I really expect it to take all of those days.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? <60 days
Did you attend a job fair? No
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Internal Rec
How many internal recs did you have? 1-2
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 8 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? No
Technical Test Questions Everything on the study guide provided by Atlas but if you have buddies interviewing they could provide it to you. Basic aviation knowledge type questions. Situational questions. Over study and you’ll do fine.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? Nothing terribly hard if you’ve been flying in the industry. Maybe the random stuff like the stages of a climb. Stuff you don’t really think about everyday thats easy to forget.
HR Questions Why Atlas or some form, Tell us about yourself, TMAAT you had an emergency, Line up every FO you’ve ever flown with; Without names, who is the best and who is the worst. WWYD non standard captain or drunk captain etc. If you could go back and change something about yourself what would it be. Legal questions again about any travel restrictions, legal to work, checkride failures, etc..
Cog Test None
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 1 weekend as I was already prepped for another interview.
How did you prep?
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? None
Any additional information you would like to add. From what Ive heard HR is more a personality gauge than answering everything correct. Be yourself and show that you want the job. Also I learned that the hiring pool isn’t seniority order so work hard for this job if you want a shorter swim.
Is there anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? No
